Sahara Desert Trips: What to Know Before You Go
Packing tips, best routes and what a night in the dunes is really like.
A trip into the Sahara is one of the most memorable experiences Morocco has to offer, but it rewards a little preparation. Most excursions depart from Marrakech or Fes and take one to three days, crossing the Atlas Mountains before reaching the dunes near Merzouga or Zagoura.
Pack layers — desert days are hot, but nights in the dunes can drop close to freezing, especially between November and February. A scarf or turban is useful against blowing sand, and a good camera (or phone with plenty of storage) is essential for the night sky.
Camps range from simple shared tents to private luxury camps with en-suite bathrooms and proper beds. Let us know your comfort expectations and travel dates, and we'll match you with the right camp and route.
